We realize that you’ve been waiting a long, long time, but we promise you that there’s not much longer to wait… In fact, you can let yourself to finally get excited, because trout fishing season officially kicks off on Saturday, April 28.

Thank goodness!

And whereas there are plenty of places to fish in the Owens Valley all year long – the eagerly awaited opening of trout season is a definite highlight.

You can feel the excitement in the air, especially as the opening of the season comes hot on the heals of an excellent Blake Jones Derby in March.

As always, the derby was a huge hit and attracted some 700 excitable anglers to Pleasant Valley Reservoir and the Owens River near Bishop.

An incredible 1,300 fish were weighed-in that day – including monsters that weighed in at over five pounds!

Also coming up are Bishop’s famous ‘Mule Days’ – a fun festival where the people of the Eastern Sierra celebrate the legacy, heritage and talents of the humble mule.

Taking place from May 22 to 27, this year’s event will see an Opening Night Supper on May 24, live music performances on May 24 and a Pink Shirt Day in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness on May 25, as well as a Mustang act from Friday to Sunday. And, of course, you won’t want to miss the Mules Day Parade on Main Street on May 26.

This is a great accommodation option if you’re seeking out some Bishop fun this spring!
