Hopefully, you’ve been in training and you’re in tip-top condition because there are two races taking place in the Bishop, California, region this June that you’re not going to want to miss.
First up is the High Sierra Ultras on June 2. These high-altitude races wind their way through the scenic foothills of the Eastern Sierra Nevada – terrain that is usually the reserve of four-wheelers in search of deliciously dirty roads with amazing scenery.
Prepare yourself for some dizzying heights, because much of the 100k and 50-mile courses of the High Sierra Ultras are above 7,000 feet, which means that the races provide the perfect training opportunity for runners who are aiming to take on the upcoming mountain trail ultra-distance events.
You’ll also be running for a good cause because proceeds from this year’s Bishop Ultras will benefit the Eastern Sierra Youth Outdoor Program and Inyo County Search and Rescue.
If you really want to up your running game, there’s also the Mammoth Half Marathon & 5K on June 17 at Mammoth Lakes.
This amazingly picturesque race will take you through Northern California’s High Sierras, where you will reach the incredible heights of around 9,000 feet above sea level.
Utilizing a combination of trails and mountain roads, the race starts at Horseshoe Lake before heading to Lake Mary and the town of Mammoth Lakes. This beautiful route then takes in roads and bike trails before heading back to town for the finish line.
Bishop’s welcoming Creekside Inn is the perfect place to relax after a day’s running. Soothe those sore muscles in the outdoor heated pool or hot tub and chill out by an outdoor firepit when the sun sets. Oozing traditional Western-style hospitality, the inn is a great accommodation option for runners.
